Romans 7:17
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
This verse is from Paul's letter to the Romans where he says that it isn't himself doing wrong things, but rather sin that lives inside him causing these actions. It shows how even when we want to do good, there can be a struggle against sin within us.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a pet rock and sometimes this rock makes your hand pick up toys without asking. Paul is saying it's not really him picking the toy, but something inside of him making his hand do that bad thing.
Historical Background
The Apostle Paul wrote Romans around AD 57 to Christians in Rome. He was addressing a church made up of both Jewish and Gentile converts, explaining how their relationship with Christ changes everything about life and law under God’s covenant.
Living It Out Today
Consider when you feel like you want to do something kind but find yourself getting angry instead. This verse reminds us that we struggle against sin within ourselves, not just external forces or situations.
