Mark 4:38
Amharic Tigrinya 2011
What Does This Mean?
In this verse from Mark's Gospel, the disciples wake up Jesus because they are scared of a storm at sea and think they might drown. They ask if he cares that they could die. This shows the urgency of their situation and their reliance on Jesus.
Explained for Children
Imagine you're in a boat with your friends during a big rainstorm, and everyone is worried about capsizing. But there's one person asleep in the back who can fix it all. Your friends wake him up because they know he can help stop the storm and save them from sinking.
Historical Background
This verse comes from the Gospel of Mark, written around 70 AD for a predominantly Gentile audience. The cultural setting was one where storms on the Sea of Galilee were common and dangerous, often leading to loss of life or property among fishermen and travelers.
Living It Out Today
In today's world, this can be applied to situations where we feel overwhelmed by difficulties, such as a major financial crisis or health issues. Just like the disciples, we might question if others (or God) care about our struggles but should remember that help is available when we seek it.
