What Does This Mean?
In this verse, Moses is telling his father-in-law, Jethro, about all the things that God did to free the Israelites from slavery in Egypt. He talks about the hardships the Israelites faced and how God delivered them.
Explained for Children
Imagine you have a friend who had to escape from a really mean bully. Your friend tells you all about it, how the bully was mean, but a superhero came to save them and helped them get away safely. That's what Moses is doing here, telling his dad about how God helped the Israelites escape from the bad guys.
Historical Background
Exodus was written by Moses around 1440 BC. The audience was the Israelites who were wandering in the desert. The cultural setting was one of liberation and hardship, with the Israelites just having been freed from slavery in Egypt.
Living It Out Today
In modern times, this verse can apply to someone who is going through a tough time and feels like God has abandoned them. Just as God helped the Israelites, He can help us through our struggles too, even when we can't see the way out.
