Exodus 21:19
Afrikaans 1983
What Does This Mean?
This verse from Exodus explains that if someone accidentally injures another person and the injured person recovers and can walk again, the one who caused the injury must pay for the time lost due to the injury and ensure the injured person is fully healed. No further punishment is needed if the injured person recovers.
Explained for Children
Imagine you accidentally knock over your friend while playing. If your friend gets up and can walk again, you should make sure they get better and say sorry by helping them with their schoolwork or chores while they heal.
Historical Background
Moses wrote this part of the law around 1446 BC. It was given to the Israelites as part of the broader set of laws that governed their society. These laws were meant to ensure fairness and justice in the community.
Living It Out Today
In today's society, this verse can be applied to workplace safety and compensation for injuries. For example, if an employee is injured at work, the employer must ensure the employee receives proper medical care and compensate them for lost time and wages until they are able to return to work.
